A Book Review: Mystic Connecticut: A Woman's 100 Year Journey to Heaven

One foot in front of the other. Just keep moving. Just keep swimming. These all seem to be how the main character in this book, Mystic Connecticut: A Woman's Hundred Year Journey to Heaven, makes it to age 100 before finally having to make peace with herself, her past and her future.

This book fully explores the Elizabeth's life, flashing back to her earliest memories and the specific memories which make her the strong woman that she has become over her 100 years.  Such sweet stories and great heartache make this woman wonderful.  I think we all have people like her in our lives, strong, stubborn, and loveable nonetheless.   This book also shows how hard it can be to grow old, not just physically but mentally as well.  A tear jerker for sure.

The locale of the book, Mystic, Connecticut is one that I am not familiar with but is beautifully described.  I think that people from this area or who have visited Mystic and the surrounds before will find they recognize the vividly described landmarks.

While I was confused by some of the piecing together of the past and the present, I guessed correctly a number of things that were not disclosed until the end!  (Yay!!)  I think the book will now be an easier read for me (and less tear jerking since I know where *those* parts are!) during my second read.  It is a story definitely worth the time of a second read.

I was given this book by the author, who is a childhood friend of my husband's.   The opinions expressed herein are solely my own and I received no compensation for this review.  I was only asked to give my honest opinion of the book.

Sounds like an interesting book. Sometimes books are more interesting when we know the author. Like the Bible -- just thought of that.

New GFC follower.

Write more, thats all I have to say. Literally, it seems
as though you relied on the video to make your point. You clearly know what
youre talking about, why waste your intelligence on just
posting videos to your weblog when you could be giving us
something informative to read?
